    Translation by Emmanuel Francis

    Prosperity! Fortune!

    Seventh year of Dantivarman.

Writ (eḻuttu) of the members of the peruṅkuṟi assembly.

We have given them after selling them (viṟ·ṟuk kuṭut·tōm) five pāṭakams that we have allotted so that they be for a tank south of the eastern division of Parameśvaravati, to Svāmikumāracaturvvedisomayājiyār of Muṭumpai, so that he digs the tank and raises its bunds.

For this (itaṉukku) we have received in full (aṟakkoṇṭōm) the price (poruṭcilavu, literally “the expenses for the object”).

Having said that (eṉṟu) we have got (koṇṭōm) for the price (vilaikku) nothing different (allātatu) from what is common (sāmānyam) with the assembly (sabhai-y-ōṭṭai), they are not those who obtain (perātārāṉār) to enjoy (anubhavikka) [this] especially (viśeṣam) themselves (tāmum) and their lineage (santati).

The feet of those who protect this dharma which is [named] Svāmikumārakuṭṭam are on our heads.

    Writing (eḻuttu) of Parameśvara.

    Commentary

1, 6 We translate eḻuttu differently in its two occurrences, as it designate the “signature” or the “writ” of the assembly (sabhā, line 1), but also the “writing”, “engraving” or “text composed by” Parameśvara, the “scribe” (line 6).
